Royal Air Force Typhoon FGR4s have operated alongside France's air force in a coordinated attack against an hidden munitions depot in Syria used by the Islamic State group (IS), per a report from the UK's MoD.
The site, identified by surveillance, was believed to be storing arms and explosives, the statement said, and was located in mountainous terrain just above the ancient city of Palmyra in the heart of Syria.
"The RAF jets employed laser-guided Paveway IV weapons to strike a number of approach shafts leading to the depot... initial indications are that the strike was effective," the MoD said.
There was no indication of any civilian impact in the attack late on Saturday and each participating jet returned to base without incident, the defence officials confirmed.
The Typhoon fighters were backed up by a Voyager aerial refuelling aircraft.
Daesh - referred to as the so-called Islamic State - enforced militant control over parts of Iraq and Syria prior to its 2019 collapse.
"This strike shows the UK's leading role, and resolve to work closely with our partners, to eradicate any re-emergence of IS and their violent and radical beliefs in the area," Britain's Defence Chief John Healey remarked.
UK warplanes have conducted patrols over Syria to "deter any attempted resurgence" of Islamic State following its routing at the climactic battle in Baghuz in the year 2019, the authorities noted.
"I must thank the personnel of British forces who took part in this mission for their expertise and their bravery," the Defence Secretary added. "They were among a great many British troops stationed over the holidays. This action, to remove dangerous terrorists who endanger our security, shows how UK forces are always on standby, continuously, ensuring Britain's security domestically and influential overseas."
In December, the United States armed forces executed what it called a "major assault" on IS targets in Syria, subsequent to an attack killed two US servicemembers and a civilian interpreter in Palmyra.
The U.N. says IS still boasts an estimated 5,000 to 7,000 combatants in both countries.
